Rams' Kobie Turner: Dealing with groin issue
    4h ago

Turner (groin) participated in the walkthrough portion of Rams practice Wednesday, but he didn't take part in any on-field work, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Turner is dealing with a groin issue according to head coach Sean McVay, but McVay said that the defensive lineman won't receive any injury designation and that the team "will be smart with him." The Rams begin their preseason at home against the Cowboys on Aug. 11 and Turner can be considered questionable for the time being. Turner is coming off recording 57 total tackles, including 9.0 sacks, while playing in all 17 regular-season games in his rookie campaign in 2023.

Bengals' Devin Cochran: On roster bubble
    5h ago

Cochran (knee) is listed as likely cut candidate following the conclusion of camp by Paul Dehner of The Athletic.

Signed by the Bengals in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech, Cochran spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad after failing to impress during his short playing time during the preseason. His 2023 season was cut short after he was placed on injured reserve in July with a knee injury. Now healthy, Cochran will have a chance to catch onto the Bengals' 53-man roster as a depth offensive lineman, though he faces an uphill battle as training camp gets underway.

Vikings' Mekhi Blackmon: Tears ACL in practice
    5h ago

Blackmon (knee) sustained a torn ACL in the first practice of Vikings training camp Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Blackmon sustained the injury during 7-on-7 drills Wednesday, and after staying on the ground for several minutes, he walked off the field and into the Vikings' facility with trainers. It's a brutal blow for Blackmon, who played in 15 games as a rookie in 2023 and was expected to play a larger role in Minnesota's secondary alongside Shaquill Griffin and Byron Murphy this season. With Blackmon sidelined, Akayleb Evans is set to see increased work with the first-team defense at corner during training camp, while Andrew Booth and Jaylin Williams should both see additional opportunities in the secondary.

Guardians' Angel Martinez: Notches first career steal
    9m ago

Martinez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Tigers.

The steal was Martinez's first in the majors, coming in his 19th game. Speed has been just a modest part of his game -- he posted between 11 and 13 thefts in each of his three full campaigns in the minors, and he had two steals over 26 games with Triple-A Columbus before his promotion to Cleveland this year. The 22-year-old has a .261/.350/.420 slash line with two home runs, five RBI, eight runs scored and five doubles over 81 plate appearances, which has been enough for him to earn steady playing time in the Guardians' outfield.

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Tallies three hits Wednesday
    11m ago

Edwards went 3-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI in a 6-3 win against Baltimore on Wednesday.

Edwards had seven multi-hit performances through 21 games coming into Wednesday, but his three-hit effort was his first of the campaign. The shortstop is now battling a sizzling .361 over 72 at-bats, though he's yet to go deep. Edwards has a 12:14 BB:K across 85 plate appearances and has four thefts, so he's an intriguing fantasy target for managers needing a boost in batting average, OBP and/or stolen bases.

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Tigers.

Naylor's RBI single in the eighth inning was the decisive play in this contest. The first baseman has been a bit lacking in highlight moments in July, batting a poor .215 (14-for-65) with 11 RBI through 18 games this month. For the season, he's slashing .237/.319/.469 with 22 home runs, 72 RBI, 55 runs scored, five steals and 16 doubles through 401 plate appearances.

During his 18.2-inning scoreless streak, Gaddis has allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out 21 and adding nine holds. The setup man has a 1.13 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 47:8 K:BB through 48 innings this season as a standout performer in baseball's best bullpen.

Bell went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-3 victory versus the Orioles.

Bell belted the only long ball of the contest, swatting a solo shot to center field in the fourth inning. It was his second homer in three contests following a 22-game stretch during which he went deep only once. Bell has hit 11 home runs through 100 contests, so he'll have to pick up the pace to reach 20 long balls for the fifth time in his career.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Goes four frames in MLB debut
    22m ago

McDermott allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters over four innings in a no-decision against Miami on Wednesday.

McDermott was called up Wednesday to make his big-league debut after posting a 3.96 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 91.0 innings in Triple-A. The right-hander got through three scoreless frames against the Marlins but struggled in the fourth, giving up three runs on four hits, including a Josh Bell homer. That proved to be his final frame, as Baltimore brought in a reliever to begin the fifth. Though he didn't pitch particularly well, there's a good chance McDermott will get another turn in the rotation with Baltimore hosting a doubleheader against Toronto in five days.

With the Sharks expected to take a small step forward in 2024-25, Thrun should be able to contribute a bit more as a bottom-four defenseman with a power-play role, though his fantasy usefulness is still likely to be limited to deep formats.

Stastney's arbitration hearing will see him sign a two-year, $1.675 million contract with Nashville on Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Stastney's deal will be a two-way contract in year one before converting to a one-way deal for the 2025-26 campaign. The 24-year-old blueliner has just 28 games of NHL experience in which he recorded two goals on 20 shots, four assists and 38 blocks. Given his two-way status for the upcoming campaign, Stastney figures to split his time between the AHL and NHL.

Given his two-way deal, Clarke figures to split his time between levels next year, which will limit his overall fantasy value.

Although the Manitoba native is expected to recover in time for training camp from his shoulder injury, he probably won't offer more than mid-range fantasy value, at best, given his lack of power-play minutes and bottom-six role.
