El Paso Matters Panel Discussion

Join an El Paso Matters panel discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, in Auditorium A of El Paso Community College’s Administrative Services Center, 9050 Viscount Blvd., regarding Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the future of state funding to help support this community. 

The discussion, “A Time to Care: Texans with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities,” will be moderated by El Paso Matters founder and CEO Bob Moore and will include state Rep. Joe Moody, a care expert from Emergence Health Network, and the caregiver of a loved one with an intellectual and developmental disability. Information tables and refreshments will be available. This free, in-person event will be livestreamed on YouTube for virtual attendees and will be available to watch on demand afterward at elpasomatters.org/events.

‘Remembering Selena’

The El Paso Museum of Art hosts a free and family-friendly event, “Remembering Selena: A Conversation with Photographer John Dyer” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11. This discussion will explore the experience of capturing images of the iconic Tejano music star through the lens of photographer John Dyer. EPMA Director Edward Hayes will be joined by special guest Kate Carey, vice president of education and guest experience at the Alamo, as they delve into Dyer’s photos of Selena featured in the exhibition “Selena Forever/Siempre Selena.” The event will take place in the El Paso Energy Auditorium at 1 Arts Festival Plaza. Dino Day! at UTEP Centennial Museum

The University of Texas at El Paso will host Dino Day! from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens, 610 W. University Ave. The free event will offer attendees the unique opportunity to touch a dinosaur bone, view a surprise dinosaur artifact, and engage in various dinosaur-themed crafts and activities. Curators will be available to answer questions about the museum’s current exhibit, “Centennial Dinosaurs.” Learn about the dinosaurs that once roamed Texas and the Southwest. Cool Canyon Nights: Jezzika y Los Amores Prohibidos Tribute to Selena is at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. Gabrielle Torres performs on the patio stage at 6 p.m. The music series continues Thursdays through Aug. 1. Full schedule: Cool Canyon Nights.

Neon Pop Party: A Neon Pop Party is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Oasis Waterpark, 13501 Jason Crandall Drive. Residents on the far Eastside will be treated to swimming and glow-in-the-dark entertainment. The event is rescheduled from last week when inclement weather forced its cancellation. Back to School Volleyball Clinic: El Paso Parks and Recreation will host a volleyball clinic for players ages 6-12 from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 13, at the Chamizal Community Center, 2119 Cypress Ave. Entry fee is school supplies to benefit students in the community. Information: 915-212-0781.
