Remember that one Friday when you accidentally binge-watched an entire season of "Stranger Things"? Yeah, we neither. But if Netflix knows how to hook its audience that well, there’s surely a lesson there for us. Don’t know if you’ve noticed but Netflix has been using short, snappy social media clips from movies to pique interest and drive traffic. What if we could spice up our content strategy in the same way? What would that look like? Key Findings: Here’s what we found out… - Context is King: Provide just enough information to intrigue viewers and make them feel there’s more valuable content waiting for them. For example, let’s say you want to create a teaser about a data-driven strategy. You can give it enough context so viewers understand what the data could mean for them, but leave out the full analysis they can get by following the link to the main content. - Be Platform Specific: A content style that works on TikTok may not hold its ground on LinkedIn. So, tailor your content to the engagement styles and audience expectations of different social media platforms. For LinkedIn, you can share professional insights or industry trends that provoke discussion. For X (Twitter), you can use quick, impactful stats or bold statements that fit within the character limit and encourage retweets. On TikTok, you can create short, engaging videos that either show a quick tip in action or a humorous take on industry pain points. - Use Engagement Hooks: Every piece of content needs a hook. That’s easy to say and hard to master, but ‘oh so worth it’ when you see the analytics spike. You can use the first 5-10 seconds of your video or the first sentence of your post to grab attention. Pose a question, present a fact, or show something unexpected that makes the viewer pause and want to learn more. For example, start a video with "What if I told you that you could double your leads in half the time?" followed by a quick preview of the solution. - Cross Promote Across Platforms: Link your social media teasers to a broader campaign. For example, if you post a teaser about an upcoming webinar, include calls-to-action in your email newsletters and blog posts that lead to the registration page. Did you like this post? Just when we thought the SEO space couldn't get any more interesting, unexpected news captured our attention. Recently, internal Google documents were leaked, revealing some long-suspected truths about what truly makes content king in the eyes of the world’s most ‘hard-to-please’ search engine. These documents offer practical, behind-the-scenes insights that could redefine your strategies and approaches going forward. Here’s what we’ve gleaned from the top posts on this leak: - Quality Over Quantity for Backlinks Google is now emphasizing the importance of link relevance and the authority of the linking pages. This means that to boost your SEO, you should focus on earning links from credible sources that are a good fit for your niche. This strategy boosts your site’s integrity and standing in search results. - Engagement Metrics That Matter Another insight discusses user engagement metrics such as dwell time, pages per session, and repeat visits. These metrics are critical factors in SEO, suggesting that the more engaging your content is, the higher your chances of ranking well. Writing helpful, well-thought-out content that keeps readers hooked and makes it easy for them to interact with your posts is now an important part of effective SEO. - Branding as a Ranking Signal While not explicitly detailed in the leaks, discussions around the documents suggest that strong, well-recognized brands tend to fare better in rankings. This means that investing in your brand’s overall visibility and reputation through consistent, quality content and strong social proof can indirectly boost your SEO. - The Real Impact of E-E-A-T Lastly, the documents touch on the E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) framework, but with less intensity than you’d expect. This indicates that while it’s important to establish credibility and authority through well-researched content and qualified authors, these factors might not be as heavily weighted as we once thought. Balancing E-E-A-T with engaging, insightful content remains a best practice.

We had a webinar with Clearscope two years ago on building topical authority. While the presentation deck is old and some information is a bit outdated, this video is the second most viewed on Clearscope's YouTube channel. And the topic is still relevant. So if you haven't watched it yet, the link is in the comments. ⬇

Last year, we ran the State of Content Marketing Survey together with Superpath. A question was 'How concerned are you about AI and its impact on content marketing?' While the responses varied for this question, most respondents seem to be somewhat concerned about the increasing impact of AI on content marketing. Although, we've featured answers from experts with a pessimistic or an optimistic standpoint. What are your thoughts about it today?
