DUT Transition Pathways
Our threefold approach to drive urban transitions
The DUT Partnership boosts urban transitions through its three thematic priorities – the Transition Pathways. While they may vary in their thematic focus, their origins, ambitions, and activities are strongly linked with each other. All three Transition Pathways are driven by a mission-oriented approach and a desire to fund R&I projects that – beyond creating new knowledge on urban challenges – also ensure that such knowledge can be translated into practice. The DUT mission is to support urban transitions by building up an Innovation Portfolio of 50+ solutions, insights, and learnings for each Transition Pathway.
Circular Urban Economies
The Circular Urban Economies (CUE) Transition Pathway aims to support the planning and design of inclusive urban spaces sustained by circular resource flows. The CUE TP operates from the assumption that such spaces can only emerge if transformative interventions understand and address urban areas as simultaneously characterised by their resource use and socio-economic aspects. Thus, it encourages a multitude of tools and approaches that combine efforts towards increased urban resource efficiency and liveability.
Positive Energy Districts
The Positive Energy Districts Transition Pathway (PED TP) aims to develop innovative solutions for planning, large-scale implementation, and replication of PEDs across Europe. PEDs are energy-efficient and energy-flexible urban areas that generate net zero emissions while managing renewable energy. Our mission is to initialise 100 PEDs in Europe by 2025 and contribute to the Mission on Climate-neutral and Smart Cities with an innovation portfolio of PED solutions until 2030.
15-minute City
The 15-minute City Transition Pathway (15mC TP) connects measures of mobility, logistics, public space and planning to promote liveable neighbourhoods and climate-neutral cities. It connects to the ambition of the 15-minute City concept and sees it as attractive narrative advocating the qualities of a polycentric city, consisting of integrated neighbourhoods. Its objective is to facilitate analysis, elaboration, experimenting and testing of ideas, tools and innovations for 15-minute cities in co-creative settings.
