SOUTHLAKE — Dak Prescott gave an update on his health while speaking to reporters Tuesday.
An image of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback in a protective walking boot surfaced on social media last week, raising concern about his status ahead of training camp.
Prescott, while hosting a youth camp at Southlake Carroll High School, said there wasn’t an injury involved surrounding his surgically reconstructed ankle and the boot was being used as a precautionary measure.
“Couple of hard days of training, you know, you get a little sore and you’re going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it,” Prescott said. “Making sure things don’t get worse.”
“I’m getting older,” he added. “I have to take care of my body. I have to be smart. If I can take precautions and lessen something by putting on a boot, I’m going to do it.”

In a photo reshared by Prescott on Saturday afternoon, the signal caller was shown walking boot-free, as he was Tuesday while going through drills with campers.
Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reported that Prescott wore a protective boot on his right foot because of a foot sprain. A person with knowledge of Prescott’s health told The News the injury wasn’t serious and that he had worn the boot for a week.
“Sorry that I caused such a worry,” Prescott said.
He does not anticipate his ankle causing him trouble during training camp.
“If anything, it’s getting older,” Prescott said. “Maybe there are just days as I get going that I need to rest throughout camp, but I actually don’t expect anything, not at all.”
Prescott underwent season-ending surgery for a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in 2020 after suffering the injury in a Week 5 victory over the New York Giants. Prescott hasn’t encountered any known injury to the right ankle since the surgery.
He finished second in voting for the NFL MVP award last season after throwing for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdown passes. Prescott enters the final year of his contract with a base salary of $29 million for the 2024 season.
The Cowboys have their first training camp practice July 25.
