Rangers vs. Angels Bets: How to approach player props from Texas-Los Angeles on July 8

DraftKings Network analyst Nick Friar utilizes tools from the DraftKings Sportsbook Stats Hub to break down Monday’s matchup between the Rangers and Angels.

Jon Gray and Davis Daniel enter Monday coming off frustrating starts. The Texas right-hander is actually coming off consecutive rough outings, having given up 11 earned runs over his last nine innings. Daniel hasn’t had the same level struggles, but he did see his strikeout output significantly decrease, punching out three vs. Oakland after logging eight vs. Detroit.

Using the Team Splits tab in the DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub, here’s a look at the lineups these two pitchers will face on Monday, and the numbers they’ve put up against right-handed pitching so far this season:

Seeing Daniel’s strikeout output dip in his second start of 2024 helps the lean I already had coming into this game. The Rangers have a 20% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. With Daniel’s strikeouts thrown line set at 3.5 — a number he just went below — the under remains the play when the Rangers are facing a right-handed pitcher. (Also helps when the under is plus-money, as is the case here.)

As for Gray’s side in this, he’s a tough read. The recent struggles won’t continue for much longer. Seeing his outs recorded line set at 15.5 makes me want to take the over with the odds at -110. But, something feels off. The better play may be to take Gray to go under 5.5 hits allowed, as much as the odds are set at -150 toward that angle. The Angels have a .299 wOBA against right-handed pitching, along with a .301 on-base percentage.

As for the hitters in this game, here’s a look at how some of them have performed over their last five games against their hits line for Monday’s matchup via the Consistency Sheets in the DraftKings Sportsbook Stats Hub:

Of the 60 batters Daniel has faced so far this season, 27 have been right-handed. Those hitters have posted an .835 OPS against the starter so far, whereas lefties have a .391 OPS against him. It’s a small sample size, but it’s still enough for me to look more toward Texas’ right-handed hitters.

Adolis Garcia only has a .294 wOBA against right-handed pitching. However, he’s also managed to post a .200 ISO against them. Given Daniel’s splits — including an 18.5% strikeout rate against right-handed hitters — Garcia is in position to snap his three-game hitless streak by logging over 1.5 total bases (+120).
