Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

The Pick: Boston Red Sox moneyline +120

We have two teams playing at totally different levels right now. The Red Sox come in hot, winners of seven of their last 10 while the Yankees have been the complete opposite, winners of just three of their last 10. The Yankees were just swept by the Reds, in what many would consider a shocking turn of events. They could only muster 10 runs in the series against what is a very average pitching staff. Tonight, the Yankees have to deal with Tanner Houck, who besides the eight runs he allowed against the Padres his last time out, has been fantastic. He sports a 2.67 ERA with a 3.58 xERA while showcasing pinpoint control with a 1.5 BB/9. Houck’s been even better on the road with a 1.85 ERA, a .226 wOBA and a 2.22 FIP. Houck throws a lot of sliders, which is going to give this Yankees club trouble. Tonight’s expected lineup has just a .289 wOBA against this pitch with a 21% K%. I like taking the Red Sox here who are 23-17 as underdogs on the moneyline this season.

Detroit Tigers at Cincinnati Reds

The Pick: Game total under 9 runs -110

This total seems a bit high when you consider the offenses involved. Both the Tigers and Reds are in the lower half of the league in runs scored, ranked 19th and 23rd respectively. The pitching matchup isn’t bad either, with Reese Olson and Carson Spiers scheduled to take the mound. After a stretch of bad starts, Olson has gotten back on track allowing just four runs over his last three starts and 18.1 innings. The Reds are one of worst offenses in the league against sliders, and that’s what Olson is throwing 30% of the time. Against sliders, the Reds expected lineup has a putrid .257 wOBA with a 32% K%.

As for the Tigers, tonights lineup has just a .293 wOBA and a 26% K% against righties. Spiers has been in the rotation for three starts and has allowed eight runs on 17 hits and 14 strikeouts through 18 innings. I think this game goes under, especially when it involves a Reds team that has hit the under 54% of the time.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Pick: Freddie Freeman over 1.5 bases +110

In one of the first significant trades of this season, Aaron Civale went from the Rays to the Brewers to help their rotation. His first assignment as a Brewer is to pitch against the Dodgers in LA! What a lucky guy!

Civale has some rough numbers against lefties, posting a .370 wOBA with a 4.92 FIP and eight of the 16 home runs he’s allowed. This sets up for a nice spot for Freeman to go over 1.5 bases at plus money. He has good numbers against both the cutter and sinker, which are the two main pitches the Civale throws. Freeman has also been on a nice little run at the plate lately as well, collecting six hits over his last five games, which include three doubles and a home run.
