PITCHER

Stud

Davis Daniel, Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers ($8,000) — The second start of his MLB career didn’t go so well. Daniel allowed home runs in the fifth and sixth innings and surrendered four runs. His debut was much better — eight strikeouts across eight scoreless innings. He started 84.6% of batters with a first-pitch strike and generated a 13.1% Swinging Strike Rate in his Jun. 27 masterpiece. Daniel’s ERA was high in Triple-A, but that’s PCL inflation. He’s posted solid strikeout numbers in his four Minor League seasons. Before being called up in late June, Daniel tallied three eight-strikeout games in Triple-A during the month.

Value

Yilber Diaz, Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Atlanta Braves ($6,000) — The Diamondbacks No. 6 Prospect will make his Major League debut on Monday night. Diaz started the season in Double-A and was promptly promoted in June. He struck out 13 batters across six scoreless innings in his fourth and final start at Triple-A. At one point, he struck out seven in a row. Diaz posted a 3.27 ERA with the Reno Aces — a team in the notorious PCL where every park is Coors Field. He has an elite fastball and curve, and he’s developed a slider to add a pitch with more horizontal movement. The kid has the talent, but he’s still a kid. This is a boom-or-bust MLB DFS value pick.

INFIELD

Stud

Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardians at Detroit Tigers ($6,500)SP Keider Montero ($4,000) is the preferred stacking target for Monday’s slate. The rookie pitcher has a 6.60 ERA through 15 innings with a 2.4 HR/9. Cleveland isn’t cheap, but they’re accessible by selecting the affordable pitching options above. Ramirez has a .238 ISO against right-handed pitching.

Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies ($6,300) — The newly named All-Star will be fired up on Monday. When isn’t the sports’ biggest star fired up? De La Cruz has a .252 ISO, .360 wOBA and 129 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. SP Ryan Feltner ($5,500) allows a .378 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

Value

Brooks Lee, Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox ($4,000) Minnesota’s No. 3 Prospect (49th overall) had a .439 wOBA and .306 ISO in 94 Plate Appearances at Triple-A. He got called up last week and kept hitting. He’s hit safely in all five games with nine hits and six RBIs in 19 at-bats (one home run and one double).

Brendan Rodgers, Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds ($3,700) — This isn’t Coors Field but Great American Ball Park is the next best thing. Rodgers has a .213 ISO, .402 wOBA and 147 wRC+ against left-handed pitching. The game in Cincinnati has the largest total on Monday’s slate (9.5).

OUTFIELD

Stud

Steven Kwan, Cleveland Guardians at Detroit Tigers ($5,800) — MLB DFS players are reluctant to pay up for a singles hitter. Kwan hits enough of them to make up for his lack of power (.364 AVG). Speaking of power, Kwan has homered in two of the last four games. In a small sample size, Keider Montero’s advanced stats have been strong against opposite-handed batters (3.25 xFIP vs. LHB). That’s a small sample and his traditional stats aren’t great — six runs in nine innings vs. left-handed batters.

Riley Greene, Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians ($4,900) — SP Gavin Williams ($8,500) has a long way to go on his road to recovery from an elbow injury suffered during the spring. Williams had a 6.00 ERA in five rehab starts at Triple-A. In his return on Jul. 3, he surrendered five runs and seven hits in four innings against the White Sox. Greene has a .248 ISO, .397 wOBA and 160 wRC+ vs. RHP.

Value

Trevor Larnach, Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox ($4,000) The Twins are hot but Larnach is not. That makes him affordable in a plus matchup. SP Chris Flexen ($5,700) allows a .388 wOBA and has a 5.12 xFIP against opposite-handed hitters. The run total is nine for this contest in Chicago’s hitter-friendly park.

Hunter Goodman, Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds ($3,800) — Southpaw SP Andrew Abbott ($8,300) struggles with right-handed batters — 5.28 xFIP and 1.7 HR/9. Goodman — Colorado’s No. 4 Prospect — has a .385 ISO, .341 wOBA and 106 wRC+ in 42 Plate Appearances against left-handed pitchers.
