Despite a lack of national direction, #Bulgariancoal is still on the decline. A turbulent political environment means Bulgaria’s energy transition has drifted for several years. Delayed reforms and state support for coal hold onto the past while the energy system moves into the future. Listen now: https://lnkd.in/dC8Hb2uB

We need an EU action plan to accelerate electrification of industry ⚡, 78% of industrial energy use can be electrified using existing technology. Bringing huge emission, efficiency, and gas import reduction benefits. New blog on FORESIGHT Climate & Energy with Jan Rosenow. Key takeaways: 📉 Emissions from EU industry are down only 8% over the last decade. As the EU electricity mix is decarbonising at a rapid pace, electrifying industrial energy can strongly reduce emissions. 🔥 Process heat has the highest potential: currently 3% electrification rate, while around 60% is possible with commercially available technology, 🤷♀️ What is holding back the switch? High initial investment, inbalance between electricity and gas prices, uncertainty on future carbon and product prices, and (perceived) issues with grids and electricity availability. 🎯 So far, very few governments try and tackle this challenge. Finland has rebalanced taxes and levies to make electricty for industry (and large heat pumps) cheaper, while Germany has put in a place an innovative support scheme giving industry certainty on the future carbon price, de-risking investments in decarbonisation. ⏰ The European Commission aims for 70% electrification in 2050, this calls for a targeted EU action plan to drive adoption of such innovative policies across all member states Link: https://lnkd.in/eSW_DijY

While #Europeangrids are decarbonising at a record pace, electrification of industrial energy demand is lagging behind. Governments and industry play a pivotal role in ensuring the huge benefits of electrification for both climate and EU energy import independence, say Sem Oxenaar and Jan Rosenow of the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP). A real pleasure to talk to Flore Belin about a really interesting topic: renewable acceleration areas. Tune in to hear more!
Clean energy in Europe is developing at pace but perhaps not quickly enough for climate commitments. Flore Belin joins the show to explain why special zones dedicated to renewables might be at least part of the answer. Listen now: https://lnkd.in/dNUpcXbj

In today’s episode of The Jolt, Sean Carroll looks at how Europe can capitalise on the demand for light electric vehicles, plus developing countries criticise wealthy nations for leaving a "leadership void" on climate action. In Wednesday’s episode of The Jolt, Sam Morgan investigates why Moldova has decided to go it alone when it comes to energy, plus David reports on Vietnam’s government loosening its grip on its energy market. Download the app to listen now on iPhone or Android. https://lnkd.in/dNRk6yDj The big story today: As the war in Ukraine rolls on, Moldova is turning away from energy imports and is instead trying to secure its energy independence by switching to a more renewables-based system with domestic production. Carolina Novac, state secretary at the Moldovan energy ministry, joins Sam Morgan on The Jolt to examine what the future holds for Moldova’s energy sector. “In general, the more energy produced here means we’re not dependent as a country on the other sources, externally speaking,” Carolina Novac, Secretary of State, Energy Ministry, Government of the Republic of Moldova
