Om os

EWMA is a not-for-profit umbrella organisation linking wound management associations across Europe and a multidisciplinary group bringing together individuals and organisations interested in wound management. The European Wound Management Association (EWMA) was founded in 1991, and the association works to promote the advancement of education and research into native epidemiology, pathology, diagnosis, prevention and management of wounds of all aetiologies. EWMA works to reach its objectives by being an educational resource, organising conferences, contributing to international projects related to wound management, actively supporting the implementation of existing knowledge within wound management and providing information on all aspects of wound management. EWMA objectives and goals: EWMA works continuously to improve European wound patients’ quality of life. We pursue identifying and advocating the highest quality of treatment available and its cost effectiveness from a multidisciplinary point of view. We work to reach our objectives by being an educational resource for health care professionals working with wound care and prevention. We organise conferences, contribute to international projects related to wound management, actively support the implementation of existing knowledge and provide information on all aspects of wound management. Thus, EWMA strives to be the organisation that citizens, patients, professionals, Governments, Health Services and educational institutes come to for advice, expertise and opinion in Europe. Factors such as genetics, culture, prior experiences, anxiety, spirituality, attitudes, and beliefs all play a role. The question remains: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁? Understanding their unique background and perspective is key to providing effective care. Let's prioritise comprehensive support in pain management for each patient's unique needs. • 📣 The July 2024 issue of the Journal of Wound Management presents seven new articles on wound management from around the world! In the editorial, journal editor Georgina Gethin raises a worry about predatory journals and emphasises that the Journal of Wound Management meets the standards of open science: “Predatory journals are a threat to all [...] Such journals and publishers are not in keeping with best Open Science or Open Scholarship practices. Open Scholarship is the practice of research, education and knowledge exchange in such a way that others can collaborate and contribute, where research publications, data, lab notes and other scholarly processes and works are properly and ethically managed and evaluated and, unless restricted for justifiable reasons, are freely available to all levels of society under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the work and its underlying data and methods." 🔹 The July issue also features two supplements: EWMA Document on Negative Wound Pressure Therapy and EWMA 2024 Conference Abstracts. • 🔍Deep Dive into Negative Pressure Wound Therapy🔍 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy is a technology that is constantly evolving. While NPWT was covered extensively in a EWMA document seven years ago, some significant changes have occurred since then. This document focuses on these topics and approaches. Co-author on the document Dr. Jan Apelqvist says: “We are pleased to share this document with the aim to equip healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge to optimise patient outcomes and healing processes. Our goal is to provide comprehensive information that can be directly applied in clinical settings, ultimately improving the quality of care for patients with complex wounds. We hope this resource will be valuable in advancing your practice and enhancing patient recovery.” Read the full document to learn more about the newest developments! • 💡 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀? The experience of pain is subjective and complex, requiring approaches that consider psychological and social factors affecting individuals. Pain is often not assessed and managed effectively, with slow or lacking referrals to pain services. System-related barriers include: 🔹 Lack of clearly defined standards and pain management protocols 🔹 Limited access to pain specialists 🔹 Health policy and economic issues preventing access to analgesia A multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach is vital, but effective MDT working can be hindered by attitudes, beliefs, culture, sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding. You can read more about the challenges in healthcare practice and systems among many other aspects of wound-related pain in the recently published EWMA document "Holistic Management of Wound-Related Pain” The document is FREE and you can read and download it by following the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/dfywUPVP #Healthcare #PainManagement #MDTApproach #PatientCare
