Butterflies 🦋 play an important role in ecosystems and provide a range of #ecosystemservices, including #pollination. Butterflies are sensitive to environmental change and a good indicator of the health of the environment. According to our #EEAIndicator their numbers are declining. Monitoring data from 18 EU Member States show that between 1991 and 2020, populations of 15 grassland butterfly species decreased strongly, by 29.5%. Member States need to significantly increase the implementation of existing policies and put new conservation and restoration measures in place to ensure the recovery of butterflies. Now is the time to accelerate the shift to a more circular Europe ... find out more how the EU is doing in its transition from a #throwaway economy to a #circular one. Our recent #circulareconomy state and outlook report calls for bold action to drastically #reducewaste, prioritise reduction of #resourceuse, improve #recycling rates and improve the introduction of products that are designed for circularity from the outset Find our more: https://lnkd.in/gatTdMa5

#Circularmodels allow products and materials to be used longer and made into new products after use. That means less #waste and less #environmentalimpact. Find out more about how Europe is #goingcircular - key facts and EU action on the #circulareconomy in our #EEATopic: https://lnkd.in/ek2PxdfV

#EEA30 🎉 We are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year! Over the years you asked us thousands of questions ❓❓❓ and we answered them. We will share every second week one of our most frequently asked questions and our answer. #YouAskWeAnswer #30YearsAtYourService Today's questions are related to water. Is it safe for you to swim in the waters where you live and what can you do to protect our marine environments? Stay informed and dive in responsibly thanks to the EEA #bathingwater viewer. Check the quality of the bathing water at your location at: https://lnkd.in/e2Wtz267 Join the EEA’s Marine #LitterWatch initiative and help us strengthen our knowledge base on marine litter. The EEA is reinforcing its commitment to be a #greener and more #sustainableworkplace by joining the European Agencies Network charter on the reduction of #greenhousegasemissions and responsible #environmentalmanagement. In this joint effort, EU agencies commit themselves to improve conditions for responsible environmental management. In signing the charter earlier this week, the EEA confirmed its commitment to continuous improvement of its environmental management and involvement in the EU greening network, said EEA Executive Director Leena Yla-Mononen. The charter is an effort in addition to the Agency's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme registration that the EEA already complies with. "I hope that signing this charter will be an incentive for more agencies to join in and improve their sustainable management. It is important that we walk the talk as European agencies, not only following the law, but by paving the way for a more sustainable approach, and more specifically in reducing our carbon footprint," she said. So, what does this mean in practice? This charter contains eleven specific objectives that will help agencies to actively create conditions for transitioning to a more sustainable future. These include taking the necessary steps towards achieving climate neutrality by 2030, improving environmental performance, setting, implementing, and monitoring an environmental policy, objectives, and targets, prioritising actions to reduce emissions, and raising staff awareness on environmental best practices. The charter will be uploaded in the upcoming months on the website of the EU Agencies Network: https://lnkd.in/eaWxsq22
