juneteenth 2024

Join our Juneteenth 2024 Business Drive!

As the Detroit Justice Center kicks off the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Business Drive, we celebrate and uplift the resilience of Black liberation, especially Detroiters who are reshaping the narrative of our communities. Rather than succumbing to decades of intentional displacement and predatory lending, our neighbors are creating alternative solutions to build their own power! Our communities don’t need to be “rediscovered” by gentrifiers to thrive, we need the freedom and access to transform them ourselves.

This Juneteenth, support DJC as we reclaim neighborhoods & preserve affordable housing for generations to come. Through community land trusts (CLTs), our Economic Equity Practice (EEP) is helping Detroiters build up their neighborhoods and encourage local entrepreneurship. A CLT is a community-owned nonprofit that acquires, holds, and sometimes manages land, leasing it to others for residential, commercial, or agricultural uses. By partnering with grassroots organizations, EEP provides legal and development services from contracts and zoning to intellectual property, among other areas, enabling them to act as developers, not outside interests.

Join an ecosystem of organizations and individuals redistributing wealth in honor of Juneteenth to help us reclaim & empower our neighborhoods!

DJC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN is 82-2295339. All donations made to DJC are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Each day, our team fights to reunite families torn apart by the carceral system, lift barriers to employment and housing, and strengthen communities by supporting small businesses and land trusts. We’re building a more equitable and just Detroit, and we need your help.

If you’re moved to directly support us, you can also make a personal gift in honor of Juneteenth.
