‘The Marvels’
The latest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Marvels, is now streaming on Disney+, and unlike some of the other recent entries to the franchise, this movie is pure fun and shouldn’t be missed. All at once a sequel to Captain Marvel and Disney+ series WandaVision and Ms. Marvel, The Marvels is a team-up movie that was first teased at the end of Ms. Marvel — Carol (Brie Larson) and Kamala (a standout Iman Vellani) switched bodies… now what?! The result is a body-swapping comedy with the pair and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), when her powers become entangled with the others’. There’s not much plot beyond the trio trying to work out how to separate their powers for good (and what little plot exists outside of that isn’t super important to the big picture), but it gives viewers an opportunity to spend time with Carol, Monica, and Kamala while their stories continue on. That, plus the exciting promise of more to come, is enough to have me saying you should ignore the poor box office performance and chatter, and check out The Marvels with an open mind.
