‘Supersex’
In many ways, Netflix’s new foreign drama Supersex is exactly what it claims to be on the tin: a show about the life and times of legendary porn star Rocco Siffredi (Alessandro Borghi). It’s full of raucous sex scenes, rampant nudity, and recreations of literal pornos. However, it’s also a gorgeously-made drama about the toxic relationships that keep us going and break us down. As a boy, Rocco Tano (Marco Fiore) feels overlooked by everyone except his charismatic older brother Tommaso (Francesco Pellegrino). That is, until he discovers a pornographic comic book called Supersex. This, along with Tommaso’s questionable teachings, lead Rocco down a path of self-discovery that will bring him to Paris, the criminal underworld, and eventually, the world of porn. If you like the tender Italian melodrama of Elena Ferrante and long for the days of HBO’s naughtier programming, Supersex is a perfect blend of the two.
