Apple officially entered the streaming game in late 2019 with the launch of their very own service, Apple TV+.

Since the beginning, the service has been known for its high-quality, starry original series, and since launching, its only grown in quality and quantity.

As of the 2024 Oscar nominations, Apple TV+ shows, movies, and documentaries have amassed 2,057 award nominations and 452 wins — including Best Picture at the 2022 Oscars.

Award-winning shows and movies aren’t all Apple TV+ has to offer, though, because the service is also in the live sports game with major MLB and MLS partnerships.

Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about Apple TV+, from pricing to how you can get a free trial of the service.

What is Apple TV+?

Apple TV+ is a streaming service owned by Apple.

The service is unique because, unlike other services, Apple TV+’s streaming library is made up entirely of originals. It doesn’t rely on licensed titles from other networks or studios, and instead, produces its own shows and films.

Apple TV+ Subscription and Pricing:

Apple TV+ has just one subscription plan. It costs $9.99/month and it’s always ad-free.

Does Apple TV+ Have a Free Trial?

Yes! New Apple TV+ users get a seven-day free trial upon signing up.

Longer three-month free trials are included for new and eligible returning subscribers with the purchase of a new Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV device.

You can also get a three-month free trial from Best Buy. Simply add it to your cart and check out; you’ll get an email with instructions on redeeming the trial.

Can You Watch Sports on Apple TV+?

Apple TV+ does have live sports. Specifically, you can watch Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball games on Apple TV+.

Friday Night Baseball airs every Friday of the MLB regular season; two games are broadcast exclusively on Apple TV+ on Friday nights at no additional cost to subscribers.

To watch MLS, however, you’ll need an additional subscription to MLS Season Pass. The service-within-a-service costs $12.99/month or $79/season for Apple TV+ subscribers ($14.99/month or $99/season if you’re not an Apple TV+ subscriber). Season Pass will allow you to watch every game of the MLS season with no regional blackouts.
