Netflix Teams With Controversial Comedian Joe Rogan For His Third Special, ‘Joe Rogan: Burn The Boats’

Netflix‘s newest live comedy special is almost here — and it’s hosted by one of the most famous men in podcasting.

Joe Rogan is taking the streaming giant by storm with his first comedy special in six years. The special will film live from the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, Texas, as announced by Netflix in a press release sent out this morning.

Joe Rogan: Burn The Boats will be the comedian and podcaster’s third stand-up special with Netflix and the first one to shoot live. His previous Netflix comedy specials include Joe Rogan: Strange Times in 2018 and Joe Rogan: Triggered in 2016.

Rogan is far from the first controversial comedian to grace Netflix’s comedy special lineup. Previous live specials from the platform have included Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, and Netflix is a Joke: The Festival, featuring The Roast of Tom Brady and Katt Williams: Woke Foke. The platform has also filmed the likes of Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais in the past.

During the pandemic, Rogan hit some hot water when he made disputable comments about COVID-19 vaccines and ivermectin, and hosted multiple guests on his popular Spotify podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, who spread misinformation. Some of the episodes were so egregious that Spotify removed them from the platform, according to Forbes.

Rogan’s content was so problematic that artists including Neil Young and Joni Mitchell and podcasters such as Roxane Gay and Mary L. Trump removed their content from Spotify in early 2022 in protest of Rogan’s presence on the platform, per The Washington Post.

Despite his radical views, Rogan has gained immense success in his many endeavors. In addition to his comedy specials with Netflix, Rogan is known for his popular UFC commentary. Rogan has also produced standup specials for Comedy Central and his own website.

Before launching his podcast, Rogan hosted the competition reality series Fear Factor on NBC from 2001-2006 and again from 2011-2012. Prior to Fear Factor, Rogan played Joe Garrelli, the resident electrician on the hit NBC comedy series NewsRadio.

Rogan’s new special will be directed by Anthony Giordano and executive produced by Joe Rogan, Jeff Sussman, Chandra Keyes, Anthony Giordano and Brady Nasfell.

Joe Rogan: Burn The Boats will premiere live on Netflix on August 3 at 10/9c.
