Back To The Barre: ‘Dance Moms: A New Era’ Brings Fans A “New Coach, New Dancers And New Mama Drama” In Hulu Reboot

It’s been years since Dance Moms wrapped, but it looks like we’re still living on the dance floor, as we’re heading back to the barre with Hulu‘s new Dance Moms: A New Era.

The streamer announced on Tuesday that the ten-episode-long reboot will spotlight “a new coach, new dancers and new mama drama.”

Hulu also dropped a teaser trailer, featuring “beloved dance coach, Glo Hampton, who wants to take her students and prestigious dance school Studio Bleu to the next level – competing nationally every week.”

“This will be the biggest challenge of my career,” she declares in the trailer. “I’m the coach of the next big team. I can replace anyone at any time.”

However, per Hulu’s announcement, “the road to glory won’t be an easy one.”

“Coach Glo must juggle her tiny but mighty dancers, their scheming moms, and ensuing meltdowns, all while ruling with a tender but tough iron fist,” the synopsis continues. “Will Glo and her dance team persevere amidst the dramatics?”

The original Lifetime reality series ran for eight seasons, helmed by Abby Lee Miller and her eponymous dance company. Cast members Chloe Lukasiak, Jojo Siwa, Kendall Vertes, Kalani Hilliker, and Brooke and Paige Hyland — as well as their mothers — were featured in Dance Moms: The Reunion, a special which aired on Lifetime in May.

Lukasiak caught up with DECIDER ahead of the reunion, explaining that she felt “really relieved” and “grateful” that she returned for the special.

“The way I looked at is, I was honest with myself and I was like, if you don’t do it, they’re probably going to talk about who’s not there, so your name will come up anyway. So at least if you do it, you have control of the narrative. Not “control of the narrative,” but I’m there to kind of experience it with everyone and look back on the times together, and express my gratitude for everything it gave us. So I’m really happy I did it.”

Produced by the A+E Factual Studios group for Hulu and Lifetime, Dance Moms: A New Era sees the return of Dance Moms executive producer Bryan Stinson, who will be joined by executive producers Sharon Scott, Steve Ascher, Kristy Sabat, Allie Breslin, and Natalie Feldman. Meanwhile Lifetime brings executive producers Kimberly Chessler and Brie Miranda Bryant.

So, how will this reboot compare to the flagship series? Dance Moms alum Jill Vertes has already taken to the comments section of Hulu’s Instagram announcement, writing, “Dancemoms, Let’s see whatcha got😃”

Dance Moms: A New Era premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 7 on Hulu . Check out the teaser above.
