Martin Mull, who is best known for playing Colonel Mustard in Clue as well as Roseanne Barr‘s boss Leon Carp on ABC’s Roseanne, has died at the age of 80.

Mull’s daughter Maggie, who is an executive producer on Family Guy, revealed the news in a social media post late Friday.

“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness. He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously,” she wrote.

One of the late veteran actor’s first roles was in the 1976 sitcom Mary Hartman Mary Hartman and its spinoff Fernwood 2 Night. He had previously worked as a country songwriter and musical comedian.

He later landed roles in Taxi and The Golden Girls before starring in Roseanne in 1988. In the early 2000s, he assumed the role of Lucille Bluth’s private eye Gene Parmesan on the TV series Arrested Development.

More recently he starred in Psych as well as the Fox sitcoms Dads and The Cool Kids. He also guest starred in HBO‘s comedy series Veep, which scored him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor.

As far as movies go, Mull starred in Paramount’s 1980 film Serial and had roles in Mr. Mom and Mrs. Doubtfire.

His final role came last year in Season 2 of Apple’s The Afterparty.
