You may know the 1987 New York Times bestselling novel by Scott Turow or the 1990 film starring Harrison Ford, but Presumed Innocent is getting a fresh adaptation courtesy of Apple TV+.
The eight-episode limited series from David E. Kelley and executive producer J.J. Abrams is starring and executive produced by the great Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal plays chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich, who, for those of you unfamiliar with the story, becomes the chief suspect in a devastating murder trial.
Per Apple TV+, “The series takes viewers on a gripping journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”
Having seen the film, I can say first-hand that the series puts it own unique twist on the tale. While the core characters and storyline remain in-tact, having seen the first seven episodes, it’s clear that the series makes a concrete effort to shake up the original story, so everyone has an opportunity to be surprised by the latest adaptation.
