There’s Mare where that came from. Though Kate Winslet‘s critically acclaimed HBO drama Mare of Easttown was intended to be a limited series, the network has been clear that it would greenlight a Season 2 if Winslet and series creator Brad Ingelsby were on board.

Now, it finally looks like Season 2 could be in the works.

HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi confirmed that they are in “early discussions” about what Mare of Easttown Season 2 could look like.

“We did run to have discussions about a Season 2. But it did feel too soon,” she told Variety.

However, that recently changed. “While there’s nothing in the works, we are having early discussions about whether it might be time to start thinking of building something,” Orsi said. “We might be willing to figure out with Mare, years later, picking her up — not on the heels of where she ended, but there have been years for the character that have passed. Who is she now?”

She plans to speak with Winslet, Ingelsby, and Mare executive producer Mark Roybal to gauge “if there’s any viability to everyone saying yes again.”

Fingers crossed!

Winslet, who was an executive producer on the HBO series, appeared open to reprising her role a recent interview with Variety.

“You just wanted to cozy up on the couch with her and watch some shit TV and eat cheese balls,” Winslet said of her character, Mare. “It was probably quite nice for audiences to see an actress typically known for being a leading lady in films become completely undone. Playing her was like that: I felt refreshed and rejuvenated by how disgusting she was every single day. And she was warm and funny, and her ability to see everyone was fucking gorgeous.”

When asked if she would play the character again, she replied, “Probably.”

The memorable role earned Winslet an Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress.

Winslet has since continued working with HBO, recently starring in the political satire The Regime.
