It’s high time that Dave Coulier shared the backstory of his Full House character’s last name — and his reveal will have fans saying, “Cut it out!”

Coulier, who played Uncle Joey Gladstone in all eight seasons of the family-friendly sitcom and reprised his role in the Netflix spin-off Fuller House, “got to pick [his] own last name,” thanks to the show’s creator, Jeff Franklin.

“Jeff said ‘I’m trying to get a last name for your character,’ and I said, ‘How about Gladstone?’’ he recalled on Friday’s (May 31) episode of his Full House Rewind podcast, per Entertainment Weekly. “And he laughed and goes, ‘All right, sounds good. And that was it.'”

Debra Stipe, who was a guest on Friday’s installment and played Cindy in three episodes of Full House Season 4, asked whether there was a “meaning” to Coulier’s surname selection.

Coulier said that he “always thought it was a funny name.”

“It was almost like, ‘I’m glad that I’m stoned,’” he added. “You know, I’m a comedian, so that was what I thought. And so Jeff laughed, and that was it.”

Fans who miss Coulier on their TV screens are in luck. News broke in May that Coulier is developing a new medical drama titled Doctor Dave. Variety reports that Coulier stars in the title role as Dave, “a beloved pediatrician who uses humor and compassion to care for his patients and for the diverse and eccentric ensemble of co-workers at a struggling Detroit hospital.”

Full House is streaming on Hulu and Max.
