Survivor is keeping it real(ity TV) with a reality check for fans.

Deadline reports that a reminder to embrace “kindness, respect and compassion before commenting” was shared on the show’s official Instagram account on Thursday (May 30), just over a week after the Season 46 finale.

“One of the best things about the Survivor community is the passion, engagement and excitement around the show, gameplay and those brave enough to compete,” the post reads. “So, a reminder as we watch and discuss the entertaining competition, epic blindsides and emotional journeys these players go on, remember that who you see on screen are real people navigating this experience.”

The statement concludes with the following: “Please consider embracing kindness, respect and compassion before commenting.” The post was captioned, “Please remember to practice kindness.💚”

Decider reached out to representatives for the show for additional information, but did not hear back by time of publication.

The post did not provide any additional context as to why the post was shared, and why now. However, several outlets such as Deadline and TV Insider cited a potential cause as contestant Maria Shrime Gonzales, whose vote for fellow contestant — and ultimate champ — Kenzie Petty went against her ally, Charlie Davis. This choice has allegedly sparked backlash against Gonzales, which Davis has since addressed on X, urging fans, “PLEASE STOP and DO NOT send Maria hate on my behalf,” per TV Insider.

Gonzales opened up to Entertainment Weekly about her choice, noting that she was “was torn between [her] heart and [her] head,” and that “ultimately [she] chose [her] heart.”

Other drama has ensued between Gonzalez, Venus Vafa, and Quintavius “Q” Burdette over a Cameo posted by Vafa alleging that Gonzales “constantly trashed Davis while in the Jury Ponderosa,” TV Insider reports.

Survivor is streaming on Paramount+.
