MaryLand came to a beautiful conclusion on last night’s installment of Masterpiece on PBS. The tender British drama was only three episodes long, but it’s beautiful storytelling and exceptional acting whisked us away to the world of sisters Becca (Suranne Jones) and Rosaline (Eve Best) on the Isle of Man. The English siblings find themselves on the unique island to identify their mother Mary’s (Judy Clifton) body. The situation stymies the sisters because they thought their mother was on vacation in Wales, not living a double life!

Yes, as it happens, Mary had been secretly traveling to and from the Isle of Man for years. She was first drawn to the island by wishing to reconnect with her birth mother. After Mary’s mother passed, she left her house to her daughter, who used it to escape her soul-crushing marriage to Richard (George Costigan). Mary also had a lover, Pete (Hugh Quarshie), on the Isle of Man, and chose to die by suicide on the island rather than suffer through Alzheimer’s at home.

Over the course of MaryLand‘s three gripping episodes, Becca and Rosaline not only peel back the layers of their mother’s lies to find out who she really was, but they pick each other apart only to put one another back together again. The drama ends with the sisters closer than ever. Becca’s recommitted to her marriage with Jim (Andrew Knott) while Rosaline is ditching her high stress London life for the Isle of Man. But is that it? Will there be more MaryLand? Will there be a Season 2 of MaryLand on PBS??

Will There Be a MaryLand Season 2 on Masterpiece on PBS?

Nope! As of right now — May 2024 — there are zero plans to make MaryLand Season 2. The show was intended as a limited series and originally premiered on British broadcaster ITV in 2023.

So, no, there will not be a MaryLand Season 2 on Masterpiece on PBS.

That said, Masterpiece has been known to buck expectations and resurrect a popular British show for their American audience. ITV infamously cancelled Sanditon after one season. The Jane Austen-inspired romance was such a hit with Masterpiece audiences, PBS found a new partner to bring it back for Seasons 2 and 3.

Even though the show is called MaryLand and ends with Mary finally getting her wish to be buried on the Isle of Man, a second season could conceivably follow sisters Rosaline and Becca in the future. Who knows! Maybe Mary has more secrets!

But, for right now, no, there is no MaryLand Season 2.
