Over 50 years after the film’s release, Beatles fans will finally be able to stream the 1970 Beatles documentary, Let It Be, online, starting this week.

The release of the original 1970 film, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, has been made possible thanks to the footage restoration done by Peter Jackson and his team, for The Beatles: Get Back—aka the eight-hour long documentary series released on Disney+ in 2021. Get Back turned Lindsay-Hogg’s treasure trove of 60 hours of footage into a comprehensive, fly-on-the-wall must-watch event for Beatles fans. Nearly all of the moments included in the original Let It Be film made it into Get Back. But now, if they want, fans who never saw the infamous documentary can watch the 90-minute version from 1970.

Let It Be released in theaters in May 1970, one month after the Beatles publicly announced their split. It’s no wonder, then, that the documentary gained a reputation as the documentary that captured the band’s messy break-up. In a recent Q&A at a screening for press in New York City, Lindsay-Hogg (who is now 84) expressed his hope that this re-release would rectify the movie’s reputation as a “dark, miserable affair.”
