Rome Flynn has already taken his “curtain call” following six episodes on Chicago Fire. The actor, who portrayed firefighter Derrick Gibson on the show, said goodbye after a brief arc on the drama.

Flynn posted photos and a video clip on Instagram with the following caption, per Deadline: “curtain call chicago fire.”

Season 12 of the NBC drama began on Jan. 17, during which fans witnessed the departure of Alberto Rosende‘s Blake Gallo, who first appeared in Season 8 of the series, per NBC Insider. Flynn’s Gibson then entered during the following week’s installment (Jan. 24).

Previously an amateur boxer, Gibson had a “dark past,” per TV Insider, leading him to develop an addiction to pain meds. According to the outlet, his character had a breakdown, and informed lieutenant Stella Kidd, played by Miranda Rae Mayo, that he needed to leave and find treatment after suffering prescription drug withdrawals on Wednesday night’s (March 27) episode.

Recent Chicago Fire alum Kara Killmer, who portrayed Sylvie Brett, left the series in February after tying the knot with Jesse Spencer‘s Matt Casey, who departed the show during Season 10, per Variety. In an interview with the outlet, she said her character’s departure was “bittersweet,” but clarified that “it’s definitely more sweet than bitter.”

“I’m so happy that Sylvie gets her happy ending, and it’s a great closure for her tenure,” she added.

A March 21 network press release revealed that Chicago Fire, along with its One Chicago counterparts Chicago Med and Chicago P.D., were renewed for the 2024-2025 season. Fire is currently leading the three series in viewership, averaging 12.6 million viewers, followed by P.D. with 12 million and Med with 10.5 million.

Chicago Fire airs new episodes on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC. Next-day streaming is available on Peacock.
