While the rest of us spent our Sunday night watching movies like Oppenheimer and Poor Things sweep at the 2024 Oscars, others — like Elon Musk — were busy complaining about the annual award show.

Shortly after the broadcast began, Musk fired up his social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) and dragged the ceremony’s politics. He wrote, “Winning an Oscar now just means you won the woke contest.”

The former chairman of Tesla previously responded to a post claiming the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) standards that must be met to be considered for an Oscar make the award show “less about merit and good movies and more about checking off demographic boxes.”

Musk simply commented, “Yeah,” underneath the post, before later writing, “When an award is diluted, everyone knows, including those who received it, and it no longer commands respect.”

He appeared to have a change of tune, however, when one X user pointed out the winners of the evening, including Christopher Nolan for Best Director, Emma Stone for Best Actress, Cillian Murphy for Best Actor and Robert Downey Jr. for Best Supporting Actor — all of whom are white.

“Well, that was surprising,” Musk wrote, later adding that he was “wrong” under his original post about the Oscars being a “woke contest.”

Meanwhile, Modern Family executive producer Danny Zuker joined the masses in roasting Musk on his own platform.

“Sounds like someone didn’t get invited to the cool parties this year,” Zuker wrote, while someone else added, “Good grief you’re annoying. Get a dog or something.”

A third person said, “2016 called and is looking for its tweets,” before another joked, “You’re just upset you’ll never win one.”

Musk wasn’t the only one to whine about the “wokeness” of the Academy Awards. In the middle of the ceremony, former President Donald Trump took shots at host Jimmy Kimmel and the “bad politically correct show,” which he called “disjointed, boring and very unfair” on Truth Social.

Unfortunately for Trump, Kimmel had the last laugh when he used his extra time in the broadcast to share the presidential candidate’s “review.”

“Thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching,” he said. “I’m surprised you’re still up — isn’t it past your jail time?”

Kimmel sarcastically added, “He’s focused on the important stuff for sure,” before tossing to Al Pacino for the Best Picture category.
