‘Superman: Legacy’ Reveals Updated Title, Preview Of The Super Suit

DC head James Gunn has given fans an exciting new update on the highly anticipated Superman: Legacy, which, shockingly enough, has been given a brand new title.

Gunn recently shared a glimpse of the Superman logo covered in snow, giving us our first look on Instagram of the Super suit that star David Corenswet will be wearing as our new Superman.

In the caption of his post, Gunn wrote, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.”

The caption continued, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy.  By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.  Making our way to you July 2025.”

This is just the latest update Gunn has shared about the new Superman. He recently treated us to a photo of the Superman cast, which includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo and more.

Corenswet and Brosnahan beat out some steep competition to play the new Superman and Lois Lane. Hoult and Tom Brittney were also being considered for the lead role, while Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor and Sex Education actress Emma Mackey also screen tested for Lane.

Corenswet will be inheriting the role from Henry Cavill, who previously played Clark Kent in the 2013 film Man of Steel and in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cavill reportedly hoped to reprise his role, but Gunn planned to take the superhero in a different direction with Superman.

DC’s co-CEO Peter Safran revealed the new Superman movie will focus on a younger Superman “balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.” The studio is reportedly hoping to focus on a group of 20-somethings living in Metropolis.

Gunn is known for openly sharing information about his artistic process on social media, proving that he is very online for someone who is the CEO of a major movie studio. DC fans should certainly expect to see more from the superhero producer as production on Superman continues.

The Superman: Legacy release date is set for July 11, 2025.
