What Do the ‘Love Is Blind’ Cast Members Actually Do for a Living: An Investigation

Is there a single reality television program that is as real and raw as Love Is Blind? Over the past four years we’ve watched dozens and dozens of people meet and fall in love (or some adrenaline-fueled approximation) and share their lives with not only a virtual stranger that they’re now calling their fiancée, but with the entire Netflix-subscribing population of this here planet Earth. We get to know the intimate details of these people’s lives, from childhood traumas to iffy financial situations to deeply held beliefs…

… but we don’t know what they do for a living.

Okay, that’s not entirely true, but it feels true. Our careers are an integral part of our lives, what with the whole capitalism thing, so all of these singles have to take those careers into consideration. Jobs can be a hurdle to overcome, like the Seattle/Portland divide between couples — Chelsea and Kwame, and to a lesser extent Tiffany and Brett — in Season 4. Even career aspirations can cause trouble in a relationship, like with SK and Raven having to consider a long-distance relationship in Season 3 (although they had lots of other problems). Careers are a crucial part of Love Is Blind, yet the show gives us hilariously vague descriptors of what these people actually do.

If you just go buy what Love Is Blind tells you, then you’re led to believe that everyone is an executive, manager, or specialist. Literally every single person is in charge of something and they’re exemplary at what they do! Or there are the word salad descriptions like business development manager or account development manager, job titles that ask more questions. Whose accounts? Development towards what? And then there are the entrepreneurs, the business owners, the e-commerce retail specialists — which all just sound like fancy ways of saying “Instagram influencer.” What do these people really do?!

With a new batch of singles in the pods, I thought I’d finally answer the questions that I ask every time I see someone’s vague AF job title — especially since the job title that you see in the episodes frequently differs from Netflix’s own PR! By digging through some Instagram profiles and dusting the cobwebs off of my LinkedIn profile, I put on my private investigator hat (which is not a wizard’s hat) and I got to work. Here’s what I found out.

• What does AD do for a living?

  What the Internet says: We’re starting off with an instance of the show, the PR, and the person all being in sync. And hey — I learned the difference between a real estate agent and a real estate broker (basically the same except a broker has to make sure everything is legal).

• What does Amy do for a living?

  What Love Is Blind says: E-Commerce Retail Specialist
  What TUDUM says: E-Commerce Specialist
  What Amy’s Instagram says: Amada hija de Dios (Beloved daughter of God)
  What the Internet says: Netflix’s job description makes it sound like Amy sells homemade bracelets on Etsy. Don’t be so modest, Netflix! Amy has a master’s in international business! She now puts that to work at a company that helps manage online retail.

• What does Brittany do for a living?

  What the Internet says: It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Brittany shows off her makeup skills on Instagram (although shame on me for using a pic of her without a glamorous beat). As for all of those professional office-y titles, it looks like Brittany works for a headhunting company.

• What does Chelsea do for a living?

  What the Internet says: “Event planner” always sounds like one of those fake jobs that reality shows attach to people, but it’s actually true for Chelsea. Rugged and Radiant specializes in planning micro-weddings and elopement (although if you plan an elopement, isn’t it just a destination micro-wedding?).

• What does Clay do for a living?

  What the Internet says: In addition to his jet ski rental company, Clay also works in tech. His job has something to do with the cloud, and hybrid something, and advising tech companies to do the cloud in a hybrid way… I’m a pop culture journalist for a reason.

  What the Internet says: Kenneth is — brace yourselves — a middle school principal! There’s no career obfuscation here. In fact, he made national news when he landed the job.

  What the Internet says: The internet agrees with Laura’s instagram, except for the taco restaurant part. Laura works to put on events (I think) that spread connectivity amongst mobile operators and help… save the world or something. All I know is that when Laura is looking at her phone (see above), she very well may be working to unlock the full power of connectivity so that people, industry and society thrive.

  What the Internet says: While there’s not much about Sarah Ann’s career in her profile or online, “customer support manager” is one of the most straightforward job descriptors on this show. Whatever she does, Sarah Ann — like a lot of the women on Love Is Blind — seems to be able to afford to bring a professional photographer with her everywhere she goes.

• What does Trevor do for a living?
