Abbott Elementary has become on of the most anticipated series on linear television, especially after how Season 2 ended. Going into Season 3, there’s one question at the top of everyone’s mind: What will happen to Janine and Gregory?!

Series star Tyler James Williams recently made a very interesting comment regarding what will happen to his character in the upcoming season. And, we have to be honest, it does not sound good.

While speaking to TVInsider, Williams — who plays Gregory — teased there will certainly be “movement” in Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory’s relationship.

“There’s always movement. It’s just a matter of in what direction… It’s going somewhere. I don’t know if you’re going to like where it’s going,” he confessed. “I don’t know if it necessarily is moving forward or moving backward or laterally, but it moves.”

It sounds like this slow-burn romance may continue burning into yet another season.

He added, “It’s a very alive situation that they can’t ignore because obviously, they’re coworkers. It’s just a matter of in what direction the writers decide to make that movement happen. And there’s a lot of acrobatics that happened this year. I’ll put it that way.”

On a brighter note, the actor also mentioned that Season 3 will feature “a bunch” of guest appearances.

“By the day it increases. We’re talking about it constantly because thankfully we’re a show that a good amount of people would like to be a part of, which is nice, and where the right slot is for them, if that ever comes about, we try to slide them in. But yeah, there’s a really good amount,” he said.

Series creator and star Quinta Brunson announced after the Hollywood strikes concluded that the new season would feature “fewer episodes” as a result of multiple factors, including the strike, ABC’s airing schedule, and “what ABC has room for on their schedule.”

Though she did not confirm how many episodes Season 3 will include, Williams hinted it could be around 14.

“There were certain things that would have been really cool and fun to do that needed a longer arc time that we would rush if we did it in 14 [episodes],” he said. “But what I love most because it’s condensed this year is it can pack a punch more every episode.”

He added, “That first episode is so fun is the only way I can put it. It’s just fun, and there’s a reason why it has to be an hour. We couldn’t do it in 22 minutes.”

Abbott Elementary Season 3 premieres on ABC Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 9/8c.
