‘Anatomy Of A Fall’ Star Samuel Theis Accused Of Rape By Crew Member On His Newest Directorial Project

Anatomy of a Fall star Samuel Theis has been accused of rape by a crew member involved with his latest directorial project, Je le jure.

According to a story published Friday (Jan. 5) in French newspaper Libération, an unnamed Je te jure crew member alleged that Theis — who played Samuel Maleski in Anatomy of a Fall — sexually assaulted him after a party in July, per Variety. The crew member reportedly spent the night at an apartment in Metz, France where the party took place due to being too inebriated, and claimed that their inebriation prevented them from consent.

Theis told the outlet that the interaction was consensual, but the crew member left the production shortly after the alleged incident.

According to the report, producer Caroline Bonmarchand and the rest of the team at the film’s production company, Avenue B, enforced that Theis must comply with an internal investigation conducted by a third-party organization, per Variety, and direct the film remotely, having to notify production as to when he wanted to intervene, per Screen Daily. Additionally, individuals who do wish to work with him can do so at his remote address.

While Telérama reported that the crew member filed an official complaint, Theis’ lawyer Marie Dosé told Variety that she had no knowledge of said complaint, and was never contacted about an investigation. According to Variety, Dosé shared the following statement:

“The only investigation on this case was ordered by the production and carried out by an independent organization. It was delivered in September and it was 300 pages long — the conclusion is that there were no elements qualifying what happened of a sexual assault.”

She also noted that the report featured a witness, who described the encounter between Theis and the crew member as a “tender moment.”

Decider reached out to Theis’ talent agent, but didn’t hear back by time of publication.

The accusation against Theis arrives shortly after Anatomy of a Fall earned two Golden Globes on Sunday night (Jan. 7): Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Screenplay- Motion Picture.
