‘A Family Affair’ Ending Explained: Director Richard LaGravenese Breaks Down That Fun Plot Twist
Zac Efron wasn’t shady about why he was sporting sunglasses during his Today Show appearance this morning.
According to Us Weekly, co-anchor Craig Melvin teased that Efron — who was sitting alongside his Iron Claw co-stars Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, and Stanley Simons — is “a legitimate, bonafide Hollywood superstar, but that is not why he is wearing sunglasses.”
Efron apologetically replied, “No, I’m sorry, man. I feel weird being in shades.”
He continued, “I just have a bit of an eye infection, but I really wanted to be here. It’s such a good movie, and I wanted to come see you guys and tell everyone about it.”
Nonetheless the actor powered through an interview about his new film in which he stars as Kevin Von Erich, one of “the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s,” according to the logline featured on A24’s website.
Melvin, who shared that he “grew up watching wrestling,” admitted that he “was not as familiar with this story,” which he noted was the same case with its stars.
Efron affirmed, explaining that most of them learned of the story “through reading the script and through investigating the Von Erich legacy.”
“It really is a crazy true story,” he added. “And these guys changed the face of wrestling.”
When asked about Efron’s leadership on set, White praised his co-star, gushing that “he’s been such a champion and cheerleader for everybody” throughout the entire production process.
White also expressed these sentiments to Variety in a recent profile of Efron, claiming that he “was consistently patting [them] on the back and picking [them] up.”
“Getting into this, I wondered if there would be this quiet competition between us men, mimicking the relationship between these brothers,” he said. “But Zac would push us to do better scene work and was a cheerleader in a way that I didn’t really expect.”
The Iron Claw hits theaters on Friday, Dec. 22.
