It may be December, but it’s still Barbie girl summer in our hearts. That’s especially true now that Barbie is coming to streaming on Max this weekend.

Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking comedy was undoubtedly the movie of the summer, coming in at $636.2 million at the domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing movie, nationwide, of 2023 so far. Stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are currently at the top of pundit’s lists for Oscar nominations. And now you can re-experience the magic of Barbie land from the comfort of your own home.

In addition to Barbie on Max, the streaming service will also debut a new version of the movie, Barbie with ASL, which will feature ASL performer Leila Hanaumi (Deaf Austin Theatre’s “The Laramie Project,” ASL cover for Tove Lo in “True Romance” music video) in front of the screen, translating the film for Deaf viewers.

In a statement for the press release on Barbie with ASL, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys said, “Max is the premiere destination for storytelling, so being able to share the biggest movie of the year in ASL, the first language for many, will make this story resonate in a more meaningful way. By offering sign language interpretation, we will build upon the film’s empowering message of inclusiveness and offer a unique viewing experience for the Deaf community to enjoy with family and friends.”

Here’s what you need to know about how to watch Barbie and Barbie with ASL on streaming.
