Wheel of Fortune fans and host Pat Sajak were thrown for a loop by one contestant’s peculiar response during Tuesday night’s (Dec. 12) episode.

Contestants competed in the “Showbiz” category, where the puzzle read as follows: “TH_ /_RITI_S/_GR_E,” per HuffPost.

That’s when competitor Gishma Tabari rang in and earnestly guessed “The British Ogre,” prompting Sajak to ask her to “say it again.”

After she reiterated the same response, Sajak bluntly replied, “Uh, no.”

Fellow contestant Lora Stamps ultimately guessed the correct answer, “The Critics Agree.” And it seems as though “the critics agree” that Tabari’s answer was a bit odd.

Fans took to X (the platform formerly known as Twitter), some to express their confusion and expose the “secondhand embarrassment,” while others played into the amusing response.

“What? You’ve never heard of the British ogre?” one wrote, to which someone replied, “I heard he’s from Shrekshire.”

Another viewer quipped, “The British Ogre sounds like a cool band name.”

Tabari is certainly not the first Wheel contestant to stun fans with an out-of-the-box answer. Back in September, one contestant was off by one letter when they guessed “dining jar” as opposed to “dining car,” while in October, Rashad Jennings confused director Quentin Tarantino for “Puentin Tarantino” on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune

According to Andy Nguyen’s Wheel of Fortune recap, the “British ogre” slip-up didn’t mess with Tabari’s mojo, as she ended up winning $15,853 in cash and a cruise.

Wheel of Fortune airs on weeknights at 7:30/6:30c. Check out their website for your local listings.
