The Holdovers is officially out in theaters — and luckily for you, we have all the ways you can watch this new dramedy!
Directed by Alexander Payne, The Holdovers follows a grumpy history teacher — played by Paul Giamatti — who is forced to chaperone students at a New England boarding school over winter break. However, he soon forms unlikely bonds with the group’s troublemaker as well as the school’s head cook, who is played by Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
So where can you watch The Holdovers? Will it be on Netflix? What about Peacock?
Here’s everything we know about the buzzy new movie:
WHERE TO WATCH THE HOLDOVERS:
As of now, the only way to watch The Holdovers is to head out to a movie theater. It was officially released on Friday, Nov. 10. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait until it becomes available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Vudu, Apple, YouTube and Amazon, or becomes available to stream on Peacock. Read on for more information.
UPDATE 12/22/23: The Holdovers is currently available to rent for $19.99 or buy for $29.99 on digital platforms.
WHEN WILL THE HOLDOVERS COME TO STREAMING? WILL THE HOLDOVERS BE ON PEACOCK?
Yes, The Holdovers will eventually come to Peacock. While the platform hasn’t officially announced a streaming release date, we can make a guess based on another recent Focus Features film.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, which debuted in theaters on Sept. 8, began streaming on Peacock on Nov. 3 — exactly eight weeks after its theatrical release. If The Holdovers follows the same trajectory, it should become available on the streamer as early as Jan. 5, 2024.
UPDATE 12/22/23: The Holdovers will officially join Peacock on Friday, Dec. 29.

WILL THE HOLDOVERS BE ON MAX?
No, The Holdovers will not be on Max since it’s not a Warner Bros. movie. The platform, previously known as HBO Max, also no longer does direct-to-streaming releases. Instead, they’ve implemented a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the Max release.
WILL THE HOLDOVERS BE ON NETFLIX?
No, The Holdovers will not be streaming on Netflix, at least not any time soon. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a theater or wait for it to become available on Peacock.
