Courteney Cox is getting a bad omen right before Halloween on the latest episode of Shining Vale. Cox, who stars in the Starz horror-comedy as novelist Pat, is hit with a gruesome surprise while signing copies of her latest novel in an upcoming episode.
Decider has an exclusive look at Season 2 Episode 3, titled “Chapter 11: The Goat,” in which Terry (Greg Kinnear) is grappling with two big revelations: that Pat hit him with an axe and that he possibly cheated on her with his coworker, Kathryn. Gaynor (Gus Birney) has some better luck than Terry, but Jake (Dylan Gage), who is less fortunate, has a run-in with the scary goat.
In our clip, we witness an unsettling moment at Pat’s book signing, where she sees a terrifying sign after a tough chat with Robyn (Sherilyn Fenn).
“Pat! So exciting,” Robyn says at the start of the clip, handing over her book to Pat as she scrawls her signature inside and hands it back to her.
Robyn tells her, “We’re so proud of you, Pat,” as Pat offers a small smile and thanks her.
“You’ll have to come speak at our book club,” Robyn adds, and Pat replies, “Ooo, sounds great” — and we can tell she really means it. Before Robyn goes, Pat grabs her and gives her a juicy bit of news: “I wanted to tell you, the lady next door that you sold the house to, Ruth, I figured out who she is.”
Clearly taken aback, Robyn stammers, “Oh,” and asks Pat, “How did you do that?”

The discovery was easy, according to Pat anyway, who simply says, “She told me,” before explaining that the two used to take a yoga class together.
The news is clearly not what Robyn was expecting, but she still exclaims, “What a small world,” with a strained laugh, as Pat prods for more info.
“Why did you get nervous?” she asks, to which Robyn responds, “I guess you just make people nervous, Pat.” With that, she gives a friendly little wave and beelines it out of the store.
The relatively pleasant exchange is quickly marred by a freaky incident when a bird flies into the window of the shop and dies, leaving a bloody smear on the glass. Pat gasps and says what we’re all thinking: “Holy fuck!”
