Saw X will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms beginning on October 20, after just three weeks in theaters, Lionsgate announced today.

Beginning Friday, you’ll be able to purchase the film on platforms like Amazon Prime, Vudu, Apple TV and more. The price may vary depending on the vendor you buy from, but right now, Saw X costs $24.99 to pre-order on Amazon Prime, and will likely cost $19.99 to rent, based on previous “premium” video on demand releases from Lionsgate. The movie will also be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 21. The physical copies of the film will come with a variety of bonus features, including audio commentary, deleted scenes, and behind-the-scenes breakdowns with director and editor Kevin Greutert. Lionsgate did not specify whether the digital release would also come with special features.

This digital release news may be surprising to some, given the warm critical response to the tenth film in the Saw franchise, and especially given the film’s relative box office success. With $65 million at the global box office so far, the film has already surpassed the 2021 spin-off, Spiral, and saw a better opening weekend than 2017’s Jigsaw.

But three weeks is actually only slightly shorter than the new average theatrical window for most movies these days. Unless they’ve got a huge blockbuster on their hands—or a particularly purist director—studios are pushing most titles to digital after about a month in theaters. The last Lionsgate release, Expend4bles, was also released on video-on-demand after three weeks in theaters.

In the case of Saw X, Lionsgate no doubt hopes to capitalize on the many horror movie fans who are watching spooky content at home during the month of October. That said, if you’re hoping to watch Saw X at home for “free,” on a subscription streaming service, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Is Saw X streaming anywhere for free?

Though you will be able to buy or rent the movie beginning on Friday, Saw X is not yet available on a streaming service for free. That said, you can expect to see Saw X on Starz eventually because that is the streaming platform owned by Lionsgate. (For now.)

When will Saw X be streaming on Starz?

Saw X does not yet have a Starz release date. But based on past Lionsgate releases, we can make an educated guess as to when you will see Saw X on Starz. Another Lionsgate horror release, The Blackening, began streaming on Starz on October 4, about three-and-a-half months after it opened in theaters. If Saw X follows a similar release pattern, you might expect to see Saw X on Starz in January 2024.

That’s a while to wait, so if you want to see Tobin Bell torture people in time for Halloween, your best bet is to buy or rent the film online, beginning on October 20.
