Aside from Even Stevens, Christy Carlson Romano can be remembered for her role as the straight-laced commanding officer, Jennifer Stone, in the Hilary Duff-led DCOM Cadet Kelly. However, the actress recently revealed that she faced body image issues as a result of the movie, which ultimately led her to get breast implants.

While chatting on her Vulnerable podcast, Romano held a mini Cadet Kelly reunion with co-star Andrea Lewis. The duo chatted about the “summer camp” feel of filming the 2002 flick, before Romano confessed the insecurities that stemmed from her appearance in the movie.

“I had actually had body image issues after Cadet Kelly — big time,” she said. “I had that really tight, very rigid uniform on for Jennifer Stone. And I remember seeing — and a lot of times it comes up in memes — where I’m standing face-to-face with [Duff] and I’m completely flat-chested.”

After watching the footage back at the time, Romano’s mother was the one who suggested she go under the knife.

“She was like, ‘Christy, if you want to get breast implants, I just want to let you know that’s an option,'” Romano recalled. “I love my mom. She’s from a whole different generation and she was stage-moming that moment.”

She added, “What I will say is I did decide to go through with that after my 18th birthday.”

On the contrary, Lewis, who was only 15 when she starred in the movie, was happy to have the uniform constrict her chest.

“I was the polar opposite. I have big boobs, I’ve always had big boobs, I had big boobs even then and my little uniform made me look flat-chested,” she told Romano. “I thought I looked great!”

Still, the two actresses looked back on their time working together — and with Duff, whom Lewis called “so sweet” — with fond memories.

“I was having a great time hanging out with you guys. I was actually having a great time hanging out with Hilary. She was just so excited,” Romano said. “It was such a vibe at that moment. It was such a summer camp. Military school summer camp.”
