CBS has given The Talk the green light to finally resume.
Season 14 of the daytime gabfest was originally scheduled to premiere on Sept. 18, 2023 during the ongoing writers’ strike. Protesters had caught wind of this, though, and picketed outside of the CBS Studio Center, causing the company to hit pause on the show again. Similarly, The Drew Barrymore Show (another CBS/Paramount production) and The Jennifer Hudson Show also faced backlash when they tried to resume taping during the strike.
Finally, on Sept. 27, 2023, the Writers Guild of America reached an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Though not officially ratified as of this writing, this deal between the writers and the studios means that The Talk is free to resume taping episodes without fear of being picketed by the writers again. (It’s worth noting that the Screen Actors Guild strike is still ongoing.)
The Talk has set its new Season 14 premiere date for Oct. 9. Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood will return as hosts.
WGA members are expected to ratify their new contract this month, after winning some key concessions from the studios. Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA members will be allowed to be appear on talk shows. Other daytime and late night shows will resume their regular slots in the coming weeks.
