A cut Barbie scene of Helen Mirren flipping the middle finger exists in the world, and yet it is not in the final cut of the Barbie movie. The next course of action is clear: We must launch a targeted social media campaign to harass Warner Bros. to release the Mirren cut immediately.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is now available to buy and rent on digital platforms today, which means that over 40 minutes of behind-the-scenes Barbie bonus features are also available today. In the featurette titled “All-Star Barbie Party,” which shines a light on the casting and cameos in the Barbie movie, Oscar-winning legend Helen Mirren—who voices the narrator in Barbie, but never appears on screen—gets a quick talking head interview.

“Rather like David Attenborough doing a narration on a nature film, I’m the wise and knowledgeable and objective voice telling the story of Barbie,” Mirren explains.

But as Mirren is talking, the featurette cuts to footage of Mirren—clearly in costume and on the Barbie world set—with her back turned to the camera throwing up her middle finger as she stalks away in anger. Hold on. What? That definitely didn’t happen in the Barbie movie I saw!

It’s definitely a scene filmed for the movie. Just moments before in the featurette, we see Gerwig walking Mirren through direction. (And we’re inclined to assume Mirren didn’t flip off the cast and crew on her own accord.) This can only mean that there is a cut Barbie scene where Helen Mirren showed up in person and flipped the middle finger.

Indeed, there are reports of a deleted Barbie end-credits scene that featured Mirren and Midge, the pregnant doll played by Emerald Fennell. This is based on a now-deleted Instagram post from Tom Clark, an actor who appeared in the film. Clark has since taken the photos down, but CBR described the images as “behind-the-scenes photos that see Mirren looking directly at the camera in a concerned fashion while Midge is surrounded by two Barbies and a Ken as she’s in labor.” Could this footage of Mirren and her middle finger be from that cut end-credits scene?

In an interview with CinemaBlend on the podcast ReelBlend, Gerwig revealed there was also an “f-bomb” cut from Mirren’s narration at the beginning of the film. “There was a sort of extended joke with Marie Curie, which didn’t end up being part of [the final cut,]” Gerwig said. “But yes, there was a page-one F bomb that sort of set the tone for the whole thing. What the line was, it was actually Helen Mirren saying to Marie Curie, ‘Pipe the fuck down, Marie Curie!’ That was like my favorite [line].”

So, to summarize, we have a cut scene of Mirren flipping her middle finger, a cut scene of Mirren helping Midge give birth, and a cut line of audio of Mirren saying “fuck.” Please, Greta Gerwig, release the tapes! The world needs to see this! #ReleaseTheMirrenCut
