Over its eight season run, HBO‘s Game of Thrones took home 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, including four for the coveted Outstanding Drama Series trophy, making it the most honored TV show in Emmys’ history. The series launched the careers of stars Jason Momoa, Pedro Pascal, and Sophie Turner, and remains one of the most popular shows in television history. That doesn’t mean it’s too late to binge Game of Thrones for the first (or fiftieth) time. The only question is where to watch Game of Thrones?

The good news is we have you covered!

The epic fantasy saga — which starred celebrated American actor Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister — premiered on HBO back in 2011 and wrapped up its story in 2019. Game of Thrones brought the world of George R. R. Martin’s beloved (and still unfinished) A Song of Ice and Fire series to life, taking fans to the magical lands of Westeros, Essos, and the frigid wastelands beyond the Wall. The series was such a monumental success that it led to the 2022 Emmy-nominated prequel series House of the Dragon as well as a second prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is currently in pre-production.

But what is the original Game of Thrones about? And where can you watch it today? Arm yourself with your finest Valyrian steel blade and brush up on your Westerosi geography. Here’s everything you need to know about where to watch Game of Thrones

What is the plot of Game of Thrones?

Honorable Northern lord Eddard “Ned” Stark (Sean Bean) is convinced to journey south to the capitol of Westeros, King’s Landing, to take on the all-important role of Hand of the King for his best friend King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy). While Ned attempts to unravel the deadly secrets of King’s Landing’s court, displaced princess Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is sold in marriage to a far-off warlord named Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). Her vile brother Viserys (Harry Lloyd) hopes the warlord will command his Dothraki hoards to conquer Westeros, but Daenerys ironically discovers her voice — and a connection to petrified dragon eggs — in the process. Meanwhile, Ned Stark’s bastard son Jon Snow (Kit Harington) struggles as a Night’s Watch recruit at the Wall, a magical wall of ice that separates the civilized Seven Kingdoms from the dangers in the chilly north.

The delicate balance of peace in Westeros erupts, however, when frictions between the Starks and the queen’s family, the Lannisters, come to a bloody boil. War soon breaks out and power players from all over the Seven Kingdoms jockey for control. But what no one sees coming is the threat of the White Walkers, aka ice zombies, stirring beyond the Wall…or the return of dragons.
