Priscilla Presley is insisting yet again that there was no hanky-panky going on between her and late ex-husband Elvis Presley when they first met. According to her, the King of Rock — who was 10 years her senior — “respected the fact that” she was only 14 years old at the time of their introduction.

In a video obtained by TMZ, Priscilla opened up about the early years of their relationship at a screening of Sofia Coppola‘s Priscilla at the Venice Film Festival on Monday (Sept. 4).

The former couple first met when Elvis was stationed in Germany during his stint with the U.S. Army. At the time, he was 24, while Priscilla — whose stepfather was also stationed in the country — was only 14. While it was “difficult” for her parents to understand why Elvis was “interested” in their daughter, Priscilla thought it had something to do with the fact that she was a “listener.”

Now, decades later, she recalled how the musician would “pour his heart” out to her “in every way.” According to Priscilla, he got candid about “his fears, his hopes [and] the loss of his mother, which he never, ever got over.”

“I was the person who really sat there to listen and to comfort him,” she said. “That was really our connection. Even though I was 14, I was actually a little bit older in life, not in numbers, and that was the attraction.”

Priscilla continued, “People think, ‘Oh, it was sex, it was this.’ Not at all. I never had sex with him. He was very kind, very soft, very loving. But he also respected the fact I was only 14 years old. We were more in mind and thought and that was our relationship.”

The Elvis and Me author — who was married to the singer from 1967 to 1973 — added that she “never told anyone at school” that she was seeing him. She also said the demise of their marriage had nothing to do with either of them falling out of love.

“It wasn’t because I didn’t love him — he was the love of my life. It was the lifestyle that was so difficult for me, and I think any woman can relate to that,” she explained. “But it didn’t mar our relationship. We still remained very, very close. And of course we had our daughter and I made sure that he saw her all the time. And it was like we never left each other.”

Earlier this year Priscilla and Elvis’ only child, Lisa Marie Presley, died unexpectedly at 54 years old. According to an autopsy report obtained by People, her death was the result of a medical complication following a weight-loss surgery.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla said in a statement at the time. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”

Priscilla is set to hit theaters on Oct. 27.
