Lupita Nyong’o and Letitia Wright shared touching tributes to their late Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman, remembering the actor on the three-year anniversary of his passing.

Nyong’o shared an image she took of the actor when they arrived in Seoul, Korea, in 2018.

“Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of @chadwickboseman’s death,” she wrote. “The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again.”

She explained the photo was taken when they spent “a glorious 72 hours” in Seoul. “The memory fills me with so much joy,” she said.

Nyong’o famously starred opposite Boseman in the 2018 Marvel film Black Panther, in which he played T’Challa, who returns home to the African country of Wakanda, where he must take the throne and succeed his father after he passes away. Nyong’o played his lover and former spy, Nakia.

The actress concluded her caption by writing, “Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence. Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts.”

Wright also took a moment to remember the late actor on the anniversary of his passing.

She shared a video of herself, N’yongo, Boseman, and Angela Bassett to her Instagram story with the caption, “Always Celebrating You King. Love Always.”

The actress first shared the video to her Instagram last November when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered. “Made with Love, for Love & Love always,” she wrote in the original caption. “It belongs to you now, I pray it helps you on your path. You’re always in our hearts bro.”

Boseman passed away on Aug. 28, 2020, after a private battle with cancer. A statement shared to his Instagram account at the time shared that he learned he had Stage 3 colon cancer in 2016 that later progressed to Stage 4.

The actor continued acting throughout it, starring in a variety of projects including Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Boseman will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024.
