Another one bites the dust (or sand, in this case).

Dune: Part Two — which was officially greenlit in 2021 and slated for a Nov. 3 theatrical debut — will not released until Mar. 15, 2024, per Deadline.

Stars Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh will be returning for the sequel to the 2021 adaptation Dune based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel of the same name. Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is the second individual to adapt Herbert’s novel into films, following David Lynch‘s 1984 adaptation.

This is not the first recent film led by Zendaya to delay its release. Challengers, the tennis drama that was intended to be the opener at the upcoming 2023 Venice Film Festival, was pulled and is now set for a spring 2024 release, Deadline reports. Per the site, the Challengers and Dune: Part Two moves were both blamed on the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, where actors are fighting for their due compensation, among other rights.

However, Chalamet’s upcoming film Wonka, which like both Dune films, is backed by Warner Bros, will maintain its Dec. 15 theatrical release. Other Warner Bros. projects that have yet to push their 2023 release dates include Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple, which are slated for Dec. 20 and Dec. 25 releases, respectively.

The delayed release of Dune: Part Two has influenced the timeline of other big-time blockbusters. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, which originally occupied the Mar. 15, 2024 release date slot, will now be released on Apr. 12. This changes the release date of Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim to Dec. 13, the same date that Sony’s The Karate Kid reboot is currently set to premiere.

Dune is streaming on Max.
