The two-part Star Wars: Ahsoka premiere introduced us to live action versions of our favorite Star Wars Rebels characters, a nefarious new master and apprentice, and a scene-stealing loth-cat. However the most mysterious new character in the Disney+ series might secretly be the most important.

**Spoilers for Star Wars: Ahsoka Episodes 1 & 2 Ahead**

In Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 2 “Toil and Trouble,” Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) dispatches Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson)’s apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) to Corellia to oversee the final equipment transfer her ship will need to journey to the Unknown Regions in pursuit of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). Joining Shin Hati on this errand is a mysterious warrior called Marrok. Marrok is fully dressed in black and wears a mask that obscures their face. They wield a red double-sided lightsaber and can hold their own against none other than Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). They seem to be outfitted in the same style as the old Imperial Inquisitors, but they have a name that doesn’t fit in with other Inquisitors.

But who exactly is Marrok? Is it someone from Ahsoka’s past? Or could Marrok be none other than a version of missing Star Wars Rebels hero Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) who has been twisted by the Dark Side of the Force?

There are already a number of fascinating fan theories about who Marrok is under the mask, but the Ezra Bridger theory seems the most likely precisely because it would be the most devastating. Here’s everything we know so far about Marrok in Star Wars: Ahsoka…

Who is Marrok in Star Wars: Ahsoka?

We first meet Marrok, the Inquisitor-esque Dark Side user on Corellia. They battle with Ahsoka Tano and manage to escape with Shin Hati. Is there anything else we know?

Well, Marrok is played by stuntman Paul “Diddy” Darnell, who is no stranger to the Star Wars universe. He was previously a stunt performer in The Book of Boba Fett and even doubled for Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vance in The Mandalorian. You can follow Darnell on Instagram @diddydarnell.

The fact that we know Marrok is being played by a male stunt person leads us to believe Marrok is also male. (That would put the kibosh on some fan rumors floating around that Marrok could be Ahsoka’s old Jedi pal Barriss Offee.)

So if Marrok is a dude, could he be a guy we’ve met before in the Star Wars Universe? Could he be… Ezra Bridger???

Is Ezra Bridger Actually Marrok in Star Wars: Ahsoka?

Ever since news leaked earlier this summer that a Force-sensitive, totally masked up bad guy named “Marrok” would be in Star Wars: Ahsoka, fans have speculated that this could be none other than Ezra Bridger.

Ezra Bridger was a Force sensitive thief who fell in with the crew of the Ghost during Star Wars Rebels. He befriended Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and trained as a Jedi under Kanan Jarus (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. in the animated series). Ezra was susceptible to the Dark Side, but ultimately managed to stay on the Light Side. Star Wars Rebels ends with Ezra harnessing the power of the hyperspace traveling Purgills to send himself — and Grand Admiral Thrawn — to who knows where. In Star Wars: Ahsoka, Ahsoka Tano is attempting to find Thrawn before his supporters do. Aiding her in this quest is Sabine, who is more interested in tracking down Ezra.

The theory is that Thrawn was able to capture and torture Ezra in the unknown regions, which would have pushed Ezra to the Dark Side. Marrok is the name of an Arthurian knight who was briefly transformed into a wolf. Coincidentally, Ezra has a connection to the Loth-wolves of Lothal, as you can see on the mural celebrating the rebels in Star Wars: Ahsoka. The idea is that Dave Filoni is using the name Marrok to signal that the character is a fallen knight with a connection to wolves. See how it all ties together?

Of course, there are other Force sensitive characters in Star Wars lore who could be Marrok, like Darth Vader’s secret Sith apprentice Starkiller. The popular video game character’s birth name was actually Galen Marek, which is conveniently very close to Marrok. Additionally the Knights of Ren are supposed to emrger from the unknown regions of the galaxy at around this time, so Marrok could be part of that order. And again, Marrok could just be an original character designed to cause more chaos for Ahsoka and Sabine. We don’t know!

However, if Marrok is secretly a character we already know, I’d put my galactic credits on it being Ezra Bridger. It would be a devastating reveal for our heroes and would echo Ahsoka’s own horror at discovering Darth Vader was really her old master Anakin Skywalker. It just makes the most sense from a storytelling perspective.
