Whoopi Goldberg is standing up for Lizzo after the singer admitted she feels like quitting music over the relentless body-shaming she’s endured over the past few years. During today’s episode of The View, Goldberg offered some words of advice for the pop star, who said she was “starting to … hate the world” after being criticized for her appearance in a video of her Tina Turner tribute.

“What the hell is going on? What is happening?” Goldberg asked of the state of online hate, before wondering about the “spike in nastiness” she’s seen these days.

While Goldberg recommended avoiding the comments to block out hate altogether, her co-host Sara Haines had a different take, saying the “dark-hearted people” sharing rude and cruel remarks should be the ones logging off.

“You can never let someone who doesn’t know you dictate your days. Tell you what you should be and who you are,” Goldberg replied. “You know better than anyone. No one can beat you up like you can beat yourself up. Don’t let somebody who doesn’t know you have that kind of power.”

Haines shouted out, “We need you, Lizzo!” while Goldberg added, “We need all of y’all!”

She continued, “We need all of y’all who are running from these foolish people who don’t know anything about you. What do they know?”

Sticking out her tongue and scrunching up her face, she proclaimed, “Send them all to hell!”

Goldberg’s show of support comes after Lizzo sent out a string of tweets Wednesday (May 31) responding to her critics. While her account is now private, Entertainment Weekly published screenshots of her tweets.

“Y’all really need to touch grass… I’m not trying to BE fat. I’m not trying to BE smaller. I’m literally just trying to live and be healthy. This is what my body looks like even when I’m eating super clean and working out! Y’all speak on s— y’all know NOTHING ABOUT and I’m starting to get heated,” she wrote, per EW.

Lizzo added, “Y’all don’t know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting and enjoying my money and my man on a F—ING FARM. I literally NEVER search my name. This stuff just comes up on my TL & my FYP. It’s wild. I swear I just wanna look at dance videos and science news and this s— comes in every day.”
