Disney just unveiled a first look at its highly anticipated television adaptation of Rick Riordan‘s hit series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

To celebrate Percy Jackson’s birthday, Disney announced the release date and shared a splashy new trailer for the series, which gives us a first look at the newly cast monster-fighting trio and some of the Greek gods.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as the titular hero, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood.

The trailer shows them fighting monsters as they set out to find Zeus’ master lightning bolt, which Percy was accused of stealing.

The 12-year-old demigod and his new friends attempt to restore order to Olympus as they cross paths with the star-studded cast of Greek gods.

Some of the notable celebrities playing Greek gods in this adaptation include the late Lance Reddick as Zeus, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa, and many, many others.

Riordan served as an executive producer and writer on the show, working closely with showrunners Jon Steinberg, who helped co-author the first two books of the series, and Dan Shotz.

When will Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiere?

The series is slated to premiere on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Disney+ will premiere the first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, after which new episodes will air weekly.

This will be the second attempt at adapting Riordan’s bestselling fantasy series. Logan Lerman famously played the titular character in the two-film series, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, both of which are also streaming on Disney+.
