The Television Academy owes something to Joy Behar — a little gold statuette, to be exact. The daytime TV veteran lamented The View‘s lack of Emmy Award wins on this morning’s episode, noting that despite getting nominated plenty of times, the show has only received the big award once.
Behar aired her grievances while speaking with guest Padma Lakshmi, who was chatting with the panel about her Hulu series Taste the Nation. The former Top Chef star reflected on her travel and food show receiving its first Emmy nomination this year, telling the Hot Topics panel, “It’s always exciting when you get an Emmy nomination.”
She added, “You guys know because you’ve had many.”
Behar then chimed in to quip, “We’ve had many, but we’ve only won once,” with a raise of her eyebrows and shrug of her shoulder.
As the panel laughed, Lakshmi replied, “I know how you feel. We’ve been nominated on Top Chef for so many, and we’ve only won once [in] 19 seasons, and we are also nominated on Top Chef — one for the show and one for me, personally, as a host — it feels great.”
Top Chef is nominated for multiple categories for the 2023 Primetime Emmys, including Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Casting For A Reality Program, Outstanding Directing For A Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program and Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program.

The View was nominated for multiple 2023 Daytime Emmys, although the ceremony was postponed due to the ongoing writers strike; the Primetime Emmys ceremony has been pushed as well and will reportedly take place in January 2024.
Throughout its 26-season run, The View has received 31 Daytime Emmy Awards — Outstanding Talk Show, Outstanding Informative Talk Show, and Outstanding Talk Show Host among them. When she said the show had only won once, Behar was likely referring to the award for Outstanding Talk Show, which The View nabbed in 2003.
While she may not have the satisfaction of multiple Outstanding Talk Show wins, at least she can say she’s received the Outstanding Talk Show Host award, which Behar was given alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters in 2009. Not too shabby if you ask us.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
