It’s Barbie’s world and Marc Maron is loving it.

After seeing Barbie, the comedian and actor took to TikTok to rave about director Greta Gerwig‘s box office-blasting blockbuster and to clap back at the conservative backlash the film has received, deeming it a “fucking masterpiece.”

“I don’t throw that word around lightly, but Jesus Christ, right?” he exclaimed.

While he admitted he “didn’t know what to expect” and “wasn’t even that excited about going” to the film to begin with, he found that Barbie “does a fairly amazing thing.”

“To create a sort of broad-based entertainment product that applies to the entire spectrum, I think primarily of women, and then just seep it in progressive politics and basic feminism in a way that’s funny, informative, and well-executed in a context that is completely engaging is fucking monumental,” he shared.

Maron added, “It shouldn’t be but it is pretty radical and it’s you know, intentionally, thoroughly explaining feminist ideas in a way that’s funny.”

He said that he’s “never seen anything like it,” adding that “the comedy about men is inspired.”

“And the fact that certain men took offense to the point where they tried to build a grift around it in terms of their narrative as right-wing [bleep] is so embarrassing for them,” he explained, censoring his own profanity. As he said this, the headline “”Conservatives are protesting Greta Gerwig’s feminist blockbuster ‘Barbie’ by setting dolls on fire and calling for boycotts” appeared above him on the screen.

“Any dude that can’t take those hits in that movie — they’ve really got to look in their pants and decide what they’re made of,” he continued. “I mean, Jesus Christ, what a bunch of fucking insecure babies.”

The film has been brutally critiqued by various right-wing figures, including Ben Shapiro, who went as far as to set fire to Barbie dolls in his scathing review.

Gerwig responded to the backlash, telling The New York Times that she didn’t expect it but noting that “certainly, there was a lot of passion” about her work.
