‘Deadpool 3’ Star Emma Corrin Called the “Intricate World” of the MCU “An Absolute Mindf***”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is notably a complicated concept to understand, one that somehow seamlessly connects the storylines and superheroes of each film in the multi-billion dollar film franchise.

The Crown star Emma Corrin is making their MCU debut in the upcoming Deadpool 3 as the villain opposite Ryan Reynolds. Despite now starring in a big-ticket film, Corrin revealed to Empire that they are “not a Marvel person,” despite having previously watched Spider-Man and Black Panther.

They discussed how they had “heard about the project,” but in “classic Marvel” fashion,” they barely received any details prior to landing the role, and approached director Shawn Levy by saying, “I don’t know what this is about.” The Stranger Things producer had recruited Corrin to audition after seeing them perform in Orlando, a theatrical adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando: A Biography that was hosted at London’s Garrick Theater.

“I was like, ‘Look, you’re gonna have to debrief me into this,’” they recalled telling Levy. “It’s such an intricate world. There’s so much to it, it’s an absolute mindfuck. All the language and the Easter eggs, and this person is related to that person who did this, and this person came back and this person’s dead… it’s amazing.”

They noted that they’re “really excited” to embody the antagonist of the film, which fans have yet to receive much intel on. Other than the social media tease made by Reynolds last September that informed the world that Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine would be part of the new film, fans have pretty much been kept in the dark surrounding what the film will be about.

“I haven’t done that [before], and it’s an itch I want to scratch,” they explained.

Corrin also noted that they “really understand why it means as much as it does to so many people.”

“It’s a phenomenon, and I feel really lucky to be part of it,” they shared. “Especially Deadpool, because I love the fact that it’s self-aware, and critical of its own inner-workings.”

The upcoming third film in the Deadpool film series has paused filming due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, according to Variety, but is still set to be hit theaters on its original release date of May 3, 2024. The first two films are available to stream on Disney+.
