Will There Be An ‘Extraction 3’? What We Know About A Possible Third ‘Extraction’ Movie

Extraction 2 is now streaming on Netflix, and it’s looking more and more likely that Netflix has finally secured itself a hit action franchise. Ted Sarandos, you crazy SOB, you actually did it.

Directed by Sam Hargrove, with a script by Joe Russo, Extraction 2 sees the return of Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, who has risen from the dead and ready to get back to his one true passion in life: Extracting! This time, Tyler must extract a Georgian woman and her two children who are being held hostage in prison by their abusive father. Spoiler alert: Tyler saves the day. Double spoiler alert: Idris Elba shows up at the end of the movie and asks Tyler to come work for him.

In other words, the Extraction 2 ending definitely sets up the possibility of another movie. But will there be an Extraction 3? Here’s what we know so far about the possibility of a third Extraction movie.

Will there be an Extraction 3?

We don’t know. There is no official news on Extraction 3 just yet. That said, it seems likely that there will be an Extraction 3, based on what director Sam Hargrave told Decider in a recent interview.

“There’s definitely an appetite for a third movie,” Hargrave said.

“I know AGBO [Joe and Anthony Russo’s production company] has spoken of it, Netflix has mentioned they’d be excited to do it, and Hemsworth loves playing the character,” Hargrave told Decider. “I definitely have a bunch of ideas bouncing around up in this brain of mine.”

That said, the director was careful to stipulate that whether Extraction 3 happens depends on how well the movie performs on Netflix. “It really depends on this movie, and if fans are as appreciative of this movie as they were of the first, then you can probably bank on a third one at some point.” Given that the first movie was one of Netflix’s most popular original films of all time, it seems safe to assume that Extraction 2 will also be well-viewed.

In a different interview with Total Film magazine, Hemsworth echoed Hargrove’s enthusiasm for Extraction 3, saying, “I love playing the character. I love this world. I love having something else outside of Marvel that’s amassed a bit of a following, something more in the real world. I honestly feel like we made a better film than the first one. That’s rare in the franchise world. We’d be remiss not to have a crack at another one.”

If Hemsworth is on board, and Hargrave is on board, all that’s left is to get Netflix on board. If you’re dying to see Tyler Rake back in action, you’ll have to make sure they watch Extraction 2.
